New class...Digital Storytelling

Last year I started this blog for one of my classes, Web 2.0. I am presently in school to receive my Library Media Specialists License and am taking a new class, Digital Storytelling. We just had our first lesson and I was excited and nervous at the same time. I was excited to get started on learning new technology, but nervous because I have not taken an online class before. During web 2.0 we did some class sessions online, but still had the face to face interaction. I thought the class went smoothly just like the sessions in 2.0, and slowly my confidence grew. I like the convenience of being in my own home and realized that online classes are the present and future. It was interesting for me to listen to my classes mates during the session because I am the new student in the class (I always hated that growing up). I liked how some joked around with others and wonder if any students have ever met face to face or have all your classes have been online. During the session I liked watching the pictures with the clouds because I would have never thought about doing something so simple, but yet so creative! I also enjoyed going over the tips for great pictures. I did know some of them, but not all. Finally, I am excited about the projects we are to do in the class....the Pecha-kucha..How cool!!!!, finding free resources on the internet...Always useful!!!!, and updating an old slide show.....Can't wait!!!!

Hello Sandy,
Welcome to class! Most of this class has not met in person, though I understand that two of our group are in the same building together. I teach online and have watched friendships develop between students hundred of miles away and have present the first time they have met in person. Pretty cool I can tell you.

Welcome to the group, Sandy! I think it's safe to say that there are quite a few sassy people in class, so if you have the stomach, jump in, and don't be afraid to dish it out!

I, too, was hesitant about this whole online business. I had never taken a course like this before and so felt completely out of my element at first. I think it's amazing how quickly one catches on, however. Ironically, despite my english teaching background, the most difficult thing for me was this whole blog thing. I, of course, knew what one was but it had been so long since I had journaled that I felt very uncomfortable trying to express my thoughts. Thank goodness that has passed!

I also found the photo tips useful and am looking forward to learning strategies for brainstorming. Have you done digital storytelling in the past? I find the most difficult thing is getting the students focused on a topic. I need to give them more ideas and a clearer idea of how to develop a story. What do you think your biggest challenge will be?

Hi Sandy!
Welcome to our class. I think that some of the people in our class have met face to face but I also sometimes feel like an outsider because I am joining the group from out of state. I currently live in Memphis, TN while my husband is in optometry school. I am also looking forward to the Pecha Kechu project in this class. How do you think you will share what you learn with your school? I presented this year at our summer inservice but I'm curious to hear some more ideas!
